Phase 1: Pattern/Fabric selection

So anyone that knows me knows that I tend to have old lady hobbies. These include, but are not limited to: crochet, knitting, crosswords, puzzles, reading, cribbage, cross stitch and now...QUILTING! My friend Meghan and I have decided to each make our own miniature quilt (which is still a good size), but we are endeavoring on this adventure together. We each chose a pattern and then went fabric hunting.

This is the pattern I chose. I got it from a book of Amish quilt patterns (specifically wall hangings and crib blankets) and it will measure about 55" x 45". Even though it is a smaller quilt it will still be a big project, because there are a TON of pieces to cut out and I am still learning.

When the time came to choose fabrics, I was overwhelmed. If you have ever been to a fabric store you know there are a lot of different colors and patterns and combinations to choose from. Since I don't have a place of my own yet, I wasn't sure what colors would be best since I have no decorating scheme right now. Then I saw a fabric pattern and had, what I thought was, a brilliant idea. I would do a Cardinals themed quilt. So after hunting and matching many fabrics at three different stores, I finally settled on this combination:

Next phase will be cutting. Stay tuned for posts about mine and Meghan's progress.
